Have you ever dreamed of going on a round-the-world trip? Have you often told yourself that “someday, when you have time”?
But what if we offered you 15 countries, 7 languages, 7 cultures, and only one evening to travel?
You have probably already realised that this is not a simple, but a musical journey, to which Dainotas Varnas and the Kaunas Big Band cordially invite you.
Around the world in 100 minutes – that’s the name of the singer’s latest programme, featuring famous works by stars from the UK, Ireland, France, Portugal, Italy, Spain, the USA, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey and even Lebanon.
Dainotas Varnas is ready to sing not only in Lithuanian, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, but even in Arabic.
You can all predict that Sweden will be represented by the legendary ABBA and Portugal is begging for Salvador Sobral’s megahit “Amor Pelos Dois”, but not everything is so predictable on a musical trip around the world.
Dainotas Varnas has chosen the works very deliberately: they are all very well known, but many of them contain a surprise.
Did you know that Metallica’s famous hit “Whiskey in the Jar” is actually an Irish folk song, first made famous by The Dubliners? Can you imagine that the famous “Guantanamera” originated in Cuba and that the poem it is based on was written in the 9th century? Have you ever heard the legendary Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” in Spanish? The legendary Gipsy Kings have sung it. It is their version that D. Varnas has included in the programme.
There’s also a big surprise in store for the audience when “Arrival” arrives in America: do you want to guess the title of the American work? That title is also the only word in the whole musical composition. The melody itself is very famous and is certainly familiar to most people.
“It will be the most linguistically and culturally diverse, the most musically beautiful and, I’m not even afraid to say, the best of my programmes. We are already rehearsing how wonderful it sounds,” said Varnas.
The Around the World programme is over 100 minutes long and lasts approximately one hour and forty minutes. It is not only a concert, but also a theatrical performance, accompanied by specially designed scenography, lighting effects and multimedia. “We make decorations for the stage, and for each country’s song we create a light show according to the colours of its flag,” the singer reveals a small piece of the upcoming visuals.
