Hymn accompanies Lutherans throughout their lives: in daily life and in the most important moments, in joy and in sorrow. The Lutheran hymns of the Klaipėda region are characterised by the distinct features of the local tradition of singing. As early as 1927, Vydūnas wrote that “The melodies, or voices, were taken from German. But the Lithuanians soon changed the ends of the gaidas, and thus new gaidas were created.”
On 15 November at 4 pm, at the Klaipėda Ethnocultural Centre, we invite you to a concert of the Vilnius Evangelical Lutheran Church ensemble “Adoremus”, dedicated to the Year of Simon Dach, where we will listen not only to the songs of one of the most famous poets of Klaipėda, but also to songs by other composers.
Vilma Sabutienė, a theologian of the Lutheran Church, will talk about the Lutheran tradition of singing – what makes Lutheran hymns special and why they are so important in the life of a believer.
The Vilnius Evangelical Lutheran Church ensemble “Adoremus” has been in existence for two decades. The history of the ensemble includes many interesting musical projects and original collaborations, annual concerts of church music and original events for special occasions. The artistic director of the ensemble is organist and choral music performer Renata Kreimerė.
The ensemble’s musical programme consists of sacred music, Protestant chorales, and authentic folk songs of various denominations. The vocal ensemble performs a series of concerts every year in various Lithuanian cities and churches.
