We invite you to get acquainted with the 1st Klaipėda Biennial “Sunset Every Two Years”, which features 46 recognized foreign and Lithuanian artists, and the exhibition is spread across public places in Klaipėda – the Exhibition Hall, the railway station, the SM Akropolis and even the Maritime Museum. A biennial is an exhibition, an artistic phenomenon that takes place every two years. The Biennial is organised by KKKC, main partner Contemporary Art Center in Vilnius. Some of the presented works have received global recognition and have been to the Venice Biennale, Tate Modern, Centre Pompidou, etc.

The keyword of the biennial – transit – explores Klaipėda as a place of historical and economic movement, political and environmental activism, and shifting social and sexual experiences. Here, as a port city, we also observe sunsets on the sea horizon as if trying to stop astronomical time, which is also the meaning of the biennial‘s name. So let’s try to slow down that rushing time, slowly going through the exhibition spaces and feeling how this broad-spectrum transit affects the lives of each of us in Klaipėda.

Important: The exhibition contains works intended for an audience of +16, and in one of the halls there are intensely flashing lights. You do not need to have any knowledge of art to take part in the tour, only a desire to learn about it!

  • Tours will be led by volunteer guides. The tour costs 5 EUR (tickets are purchased at the box office), discounts apply (https://kkkc.lt/lankytojams/bendra-informacija/).
  • Tour duration is 1 hour.
  • Location: KKKC Exhibition Hall, Didžioji Vandens g. 2, Klaipėda.
