The paper (origami) puppet play based on Vytautas V. Landsbergis’ fairy tale “The Love of Dominykas the Horse” presents the theme of love to the audience in a modern, subtle and creative way.
The plot of the tale is surprising, paradoxical. Dominykas, a wild horse, falls in love with a beautiful and a little square cornflower. As winter approaches, the horse picks the cornflower and hides it, as the frost threatens to freeze it, and sets off for Africa. His journey is interesting and complicated. Dominic meets a polar bear, a crocodile, camels and other characters. Finally, Dominykas arrives at the cornflower meadow where his beloved comes from. As spring approaches, Dominykas returns to Lithuania because his cornflower flower is about to sprout again.
During the stage action, two actors (Kamilė Kondrotaitė and Liudas Vyšniauskas) use paper leaflets of different sizes and shapes to tell the story. The scenography shows different ways of representing maps of the world, which change during the journey. Watching the movement of the puppets and objects, the audience is involuntarily involved in the game, developing their imagination and creativity. The performance contains interactive moments that engage the audience and encourage them to think creatively while finding solutions. This play of love and travel teaches love and creativity, but it is also a subtle testimony to eternal life, to the constant renewal that takes place.
