19 February – 4 March An exhibition of traditional Samogitian masks carved from wood by Anicetas Puškorius (1911-1994), his sons Raimundas (1954) and Linas (1959) and his grandson Matas (2000).
𝐊𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐜̌𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐤𝐭𝐢 𝐬𝐮 𝐩𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐭𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐬 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐮𝐦𝐢 𝐑. 𝐏𝐮𝐬̌𝐤𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐮𝐦𝐢 𝐯𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨 𝟏𝟖 𝐝., 𝟏𝟗 𝐯𝐚. 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐮̨ 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐮̨ 𝐤𝐥𝐮𝐛𝐨 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐮.
The masks made by the Puškorys are lightweight, carved from carefully selected wood, comfortable and easy to wear. Witches and witches, merchants, cannabis, bacon, doctors, kipshas, beggars, all look down from the walls. The gaping toothless mouths, ham noses, horns and claws don’t frighten – the masks smile, the eyes twinkle… Raimundas Puškorius, currently the most active promoter of family traditions, can tell you endlessly about the fun and characters of the characters he has seen and experienced in his own eyes.
In the showcase of the Art Courtyard’s workshop, the textile masks of the family women Birutė Puškorienė (1923-1992), Raimundas’ mother, and Ona Barsteigienė (1931- 2014), the mother-in-law of her brother Linas, were ready for the Halloween. The knitted, crocheted, knotted and variously knotted lichinas of traditional holiday characters are a delight to the eye and bring a smile. Their simplicity and expressive features invite you to create your own light and comfortable Halloween mask.
Both exhibitions dedicated to Užgavėnai will be open at the Ethnocultural Centre until Užgavėnai. They are free to view.
