Just a few minutes by ferry, and you can find yourself in a real corner of paradise – the Curonian Spit. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the part of Klaipeda called Smiltyne. There are long beaches of soft sand, dunes protect from the wind, and fragrant pine forests help to relax from the fatigue caused by everyday life and work. I Smiltyne beach stretches south of I Smiltyne beach, about 2.5 km from the ferry. There is a parking lot next to this beach, there are toilets, changing cabins on the beach, and lifeguards are on duty. On the way to the beach, there is a place to buy drinks and snacks. To the north is a men’s beach, and beyond it is a nudist beach. II Smiltyne beach is covered with fine sand, but it is not very wide. Locals sometimes call it a Portuguese-style beach. There are fewer people, and it feels like being on the ocean. By the way, from Hagen dune, which is nearby, offers a real ‘ocean view’!
In Smiltyne, recreation by the sea can be perfectly combined with active and cognitive entertainment. Both young and adult will be impressed by one of the most visited museums in Lithuania – the Lithuanian Maritime Museum and Dolphinarium. In Smiltyne, during the summer, visitors are welcomed at the Curonian Spit National Park Visitor Center, where various nature educations take place, nature afternoons are held and musical and cultural activities take place. In July- August, every Saturday, an art workshop will take place in Smiltyne near the visitor center. Based on the project “In Search of Wonderful Land. Cultural tourism route from Nida artists’ colony to Pranas Domšaitis ”. You can also visit the yacht club, see the ship “Dubingiai”. Admire the 20th-century villas and a traditional fisherman’s homestead. Lovers of active recreation can travel along the seaside paths on foot or by bicycle all the way to Nida. On the way to visit Juodkrante, Pervalka, Preila, Dead Dunes, Witches Hill, and other interesting places of the Curonian Spit.
