Klaipeda is not only a great place for a summer vacation with easy access to the beautiful beaches of the Baltic Sea but also a place where you can practice active leisure. One of the most favorites is cycling on trails around the region.
Probably the most popular beach for cyclists who are ready to ride on the Curonian Spit is an unmarked beach in Smiltyne, which is unofficially called “Cyclists”, located about 7-8 km from the Old Ferry, at the municipal border.
On the way to Cyclists’ beach, you can find tables, stop for a picnic or a short rest. There is no infrastructure, such as – changing rooms, cafes, or lifeguards – on this beach. However, cyclists call this secluded beach iconic. It is wide and little touched by humans, as a real wild beach. In the middle of the season on the Cyclists’ beach, you can meet a number of active leisure enthusiasts who stopped on the way to the depths of the Curonian Spit.
From Klaipeda to Nida through the Curonian Spit National Park – one of the most impressive in Lithuania. The 52 km long route winds along the seaside, with fragrant pine forests, connecting Smiltyne, Juodkrante, Pervalka, Preila and Nida. Along the way, there are many specially equipped rest areas. Visiting the impressive dunes, which have repeatedly become a filming ground is a must. Also, climb Witches’ Hill and admire the traditional wooden architecture, or taste freshly smoked fish.
