If you decide to visit Klaipeda seaside, you have something to choose from, because there are many attractive beaches for your rest.
Melnrage I
1st Melnrage beach with the North Pier is a favorite of vacationers – on sunny quiet days. It is convenient to enjoy sunbathing, or on windy days. Beach is great for power kites surfers! Klaipeda residents who want to admire the impressive waves are happy to choose the area of the beach. And, of course, the North Pier is an ideal place to watch the passing ships, the sunsets, and take “Instagram” photos. The beach is long with clean and soft sand. There are changing cabins, a toilet, lifeguards on duty, and cafes. Even those who dream of surfing can try their hand at surfing school.
Melnragė II
2nd Melnrage beach is mostly chosen by active recreation lovers. On the beach, holidaymakers will find equipped playgrounds, volleyball, handball, sand basketball courts, exercise machines, changing cabins and showers. Lifeguards take care of the safety of the holidaymakers, and a medical point is installed in the lifeguard’s station. 2nd Melnrage beach is also adapted for people with reduced mobility – they have a path, toilets, as well as a parking lot.
Smiltyne I
Smiltyne beaches are exceptional beaches of Klaipeda, because they can be accessed only by water, so a ferry, lagoon, and seagulls are waiting for you! There are two places from where you can reach Smiltyne: Old Ferry (Danės St. 1) – for pedestrians and cyclists, and Naujoji Ferry (Nemuno St. 8). The latter is more suitable for relaxing on Smiltyne II beach. The new ferry can be reached by car, bicycle or on foot.
Smiltynė II
Just a few minutes by ferry, and you can find yourself in a real corner of paradise – the Curonian Spit. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the part of Klaipeda called Smiltyne. There are long beaches of soft sand, dunes protect from the wind, and fragrant pine forests help to relax from the fatigue caused by everyday life and work.
II Smiltyne beach is covered with fine sand, but it is not very wide. Locals sometimes call it a Portuguese-style beach. There are fewer people, and it feels like being on the ocean. By the way, from Hagen dune, which is nearby, offers a real ‘ocean view’!
Giruliai
Giruliai is located in the north of Klaipėda city – a small settlement surrounded by green forests and washed by the Baltic Sea. It is one of the favorite beaches of Klaipeda city, which is mostly chosen by families on vacation. One of the attractions of Giruliai beach is a wooden observation deck, built a few years ago. Vacationers love to climb it to look at the beach, to see the sunset, or take photos.
Giruliai and 1st Melnrage can be named as the two most popular beaches to watch the sunsets. Not sure? Come and try it 🙂
