The beginning of the 17<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0century saw brick residential houses and warehouses standing on \u017dvej\u0173 Street. In the first half of the 20<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0century, the warehouse situated at \u017dvej\u0173 Str. 12 was known as the <em><i>Germania-Speicher<\/i><\/em>\u00a0(German Warehouse), and the building next to it, at \u017dvej\u0173 Str. 8, as the <em><i>Dange-Speicher<\/i><\/em>\u00a0(Dan\u0117 Warehouse). Due to their architectural similarity, the townspeople nicknamed them <em><i>Two Brothers<\/i><\/em>. The ingenious names of Klaip\u0117da warehouses recall the city\u2019s desire to give meaning even to the architecture designed for practical purposes. In the 18<sup>th<\/sup>-19<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0centuries, the warehouses named <em><i>Hermes<\/i><\/em>, <em><i>Leopard<\/i><\/em>, <em><i>Three Roofs<\/i><\/em>, <em><i>The Greater Warehouse<\/i><\/em>, <em><i>Charles\u2019 Warehouse<\/i><\/em>\u00a0and <em><i>Green Warehouse<\/i><\/em>, as well as many other, operated here. The surviving buildings are like memory capsules that preserve traces of the prosperity of trade and narrate the story of the city whose face was shaped by the port.
