For almost half a century the building served the army, today they serve science.<\/p>\n<p>The university was founded on 1 January 1991, by merging the departments of the Kaunas Institute and the \u0160iauliai Pedagogical Institute. Currently, it is home to three faculties, several institutes, a library, a publishing house, a Botanical Garden and a Career Centre.
