An evening of traditional singing “Mojavos – let’s sing and chant together”

2025-05-13 - 2025-05-13

Time

18:30

Location

Klaipėda Ethnocultural Centre
Daržų str. 10, Klaipėda
13 May, 18.30 Klaipėda Ethnoculture Centre invites you to the evening of traditional singing “Mojavos – let’s sing and sing together”.
Mojave, Majus, May Day – these are the “names” given to the prayerful/sacred evenings in May. It is a beautiful tradition that combines folk devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary with the traditional devotion to the Holy Spirit. It is a beautiful combination of devotion to the Virgin Mary with the singing of the litany dedicated to her (“Loreto”) and the traditional hymn “Hail Mary, Mother of God” and other hymns, as well as the singing of folk songs and folk circles. This tradition has long been performed at chapels, crosses, Lourdes or plague tombs, where folk songs and rhythms have brought the participants together after the resounding folk songs.
In the evening, the folk singing ensemble of the Klaipėda Mary Queen of Peace Parish (led by Vidmantas Budreckis) will be singing in the Mojavas’ evening, and the Traditional Songs Club with the musicologist, Assoc. Prof. Rūta Vildžiūnienė, will be inviting people to sing Semitic songs and spin circles.
The evening will be hosted by Rev. Dr Saulius Stumbra.
Free entry.
