This evening, the most prominent works of 19th century Romanticism will be revealed through a dialogue between two prominent musical personalities: pianist Lukas Geniušas and the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Modestas Pitrėnas.

The programme features two symphonic highlights in D minor: the Piano Concerto No.1 by Johannes Brahms and the Symphony No.7 by Antonín Dvořák.Johannes Brahms composed his Piano Concerto in D minor as an opus of inner struggle, spiritual drama and great emotional tension.

It is a work that marks a turning point in the development of the concerto genre: the piano is not a decoration, but an equal partner of the orchestra, weaving together a powerful symphonic vision. Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No 7 in D minor is one of his darkest and most dramatic symphonic opuses. The composer wrote it against a backdrop of national self-consciousness and political tension, so that the music has a pulse of anxiety, an indomitable will and, ultimately, triumphant hope.
