Concert “Piazzolla-Rovira: Tango Revolution”

2025-01-25 - 2025-01-25

Time

18:30

Location

Klaipėda Concert Hall
Šaulių str. 36

Ensemble SONICO: Lysandre Donoso (bandoneon), Carmela Delgado (bandoneon), Stephen Meyer (violin), Daniel Hurtado Jiménez (violin), Oscar Quiñonez (viola), Guillaume Lagravière (cello), Ariel Eberstein (double-bass), Ivo De Greef (piano), Camilo Córdoba (guitar) Programme: Á. Piazzolla, E. Rovira Ástor Piazzolla (1921-1992) and Eduardo Rovira (1925-1980) were the two pioneers of avant-garde tango. It is said that they competed with each other for primacy: this competition inspired the Sonico ensemble to rediscover the birth of modern tango with its programme. This performance combines the repertoire of two of the cornerstones of modern tango history, founded in 1956. The Octeto Buenos Aires, founded by Piazzolla, and the Octeto La Plata, led by Rovira, were the “creative laboratories” of these famous masters of the bandoniere, where they explored the limits of tango. The programme is also unique in that it includes works by Piazzolla, whose scores he burned and which survive only in recorded form, as well as Rovira’s compositions, whose original sheet music was also lost, damaged by the flood, and four pieces that have never been published before.
