The programme, initiated by conductor Vilmantas Kaliūnas, focuses on masterpieces of German classical music, alongside Lithuanian classics – Preludes by M. K. Čiurlionis on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the composer’s birth, and Three Songs without Words by the 20th century Israeli composer Paul Ben-Haim. The heart of the programme is Anton Bruckner’s String Quintet in F major (version for chamber orchestra), the only large-scale chamber work by Anton Bruckner that requires extraordinary artistic depth and extraordinary craftsmanship. With guest violin virtuoso Liv Migdal from Germany, the orchestra will perform Bach’s magnificent Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in A minor. Johan Sebastian Bach – Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in A minor, BWV 1041
Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis – Five Preludes
