On August 21 at 6:00 p.m., an exhibition of faculty members’ work will open at the “Daržas” Gallery of the Klaipėda Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, inviting the faculty community to see things from a different perspective. This is an opportunity for students, art professionals, and the general public to meet the faculty not in lecture halls, but in their creative space—among works that reveal their individual artistic explorations, professional experience, and creative ideas. This is the third exhibition at the VDA Klaipėda Faculty’s “Daržas” Gallery, which opened its doors in June, and the second dedicated to showcasing the creative work of the faculty community. Since the gallery’s inception, the goal has been to create a vibrant cultural space that showcases not only students’ final projects or thematic exhibitions but also the creative activities of the academic community. In this way, the gallery becomes a place where the academic process naturally merges with professional art and design practice.
The aim of the exhibition is to present the faculty members as active creators whose professional practice is inseparable from their teaching activities. The artists and designers who share their knowledge in classrooms every day are, first and foremost, professionals in their fields—creating, experimenting, participating in exhibitions and competitions, and shaping the field of contemporary art and design in Lithuania and beyond. It is precisely this ongoing creative practice that becomes a vital part of the quality of the program, providing students with the opportunity to learn directly from actively practicing professionals.
The exhibition features works by artists from various disciplines. Each artist presents a unique creative language, and together they form a multifaceted picture of contemporary art—ranging from conceptual artistic research to visual communication, photography, and design solutions. According to the exhibition’s curator, Assoc. Prof. Martynas Lapas, dean of the Klaipėda Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, such exhibitions are important not only for the academic community but also for the city’s broader cultural life. They allow the public to get to know the faculty members not only as educators but also as professional creators whose work contributes to the development of contemporary art and design processes. It also provides students with an opportunity to get to know their instructors better and to realize that they are being taught by artists who are actively creating and constantly engaged in creative processes.
The “Daržas” Gallery is becoming an increasingly important part of the cultural life of the Klaipėda Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts. The exhibitions held there foster dialogue between the academic community and the public, showcase diverse art and design practices, and encourage open discussion about contemporary creativity. The faculty exhibition continues this tradition, inviting visitors to get to know the people who not only educate future creators but also actively participate in Lithuania’s art and design scenes themselves.
The exhibition is curated by Assoc. Prof. Martynas Lapas, Dean of the Klaipėda Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts. Exhibiting artists: Prof. Alvydas Klimas, Prof. Remigijus Treigys, Assoc. Prof. Simas Žaltauskas, Assoc. Prof. Irma Leščinskaitė, Assoc. Prof. Martynas Lapas, Lecturer Andrius Grinkevičius, Lecturer Urtė Kraniauskaitė, Assoc. Prof. Mindaugas Petrulis, and other faculty members of the Klaipėda Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts.
The exhibition will run through October 17.
