St. In the acoustics of the Assisi Chapel, a programme dedicated exclusively to Peteris Vasks will celebrate the 80th anniversary of this outstanding Latvian composer. Vasks’ work is a harmonious blend of meditative serenity, the pursuit of light and the intensity of spiritual states, which is why his music organically conveys the atmosphere of a sacred space.
The Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra and the Aukuras Choir, conducted by Tomas Ambrozaitis, will perform works representing the different directions of Vasko’s work – from ascetic textures based on the poetics of silence and pauses to emotional expressions related to the themes of the inner human experiences. The programme brings together the choral and orchestral dimensions of Vasko’s language, allowing us to hear the core of his music: the intersections of fragile hope, contemplation and spiritual uplift. This concert is not only a jubilee dedication, but also an opportunity to look at the Baltic contemporary music tradition through the prism of one of its most important composers.
The event is free.
