The creators of “The Little Red Riding Hood” at Klaipėda Puppet Theatre took a look at Charles Perrault’s classic fairy tale through the eyes of the Wolf. Why does the wolf Albin devour Little Red Riding Hood and Grandma? What makes him do this? What does it mean to be different? The bullying of those around us encourages us not to give up, to fight back with chosen or imposed forms of struggle that often only make others laugh or, even worse, draw their wrath. Hence the play’s moral: “In every little thing there is a beast slumbering, capable of waking up at any moment… Especially if love is stirred…”
The modern “twisted” plot of “Little Red Riding Hood”, spiced up with comedy, drama, criminal elements and musical interludes, is narrated by bright, colourful glove puppets made of wool, which are fascinating in their originality and impressive plastic possibilities.
