In Hilma, director Lasse Hallström brings to life the story of Hilma af Klint (1862-1944), the Swedish female painter who, after her death, transformed the art world as one of the first female abstract artists. In this gripping biopic, starring Tora Hallström as the young Hilma and Lena Olin as the mature Hilma, we follow the artist’s life from her early years, through her burgeoning artistic career and her spiritual awakening after the loss of her beloved younger sister Hermina.Hilma explores the artist’s spirituality, her unconventional love life and the mystical philosophy that drives her work, creating a portrait of a woman ahead of her time.
