Three Daily Departures to Liepāja
Buses on the Klaipėda–Riga route will operate daily, offering travelers three possible departure times: 8:10 AM, 12:55 PM, and 5:10 PM.
“This schedule allows travelers to choose the most convenient time based on their needs,” says Aldis Kibens, a board member at Lux Express in Latvia. “Morning departures are ideal for those planning to leave early, explore Liepāja during the day, and return in the evening. The midday option suits tourists checking out of hotels, while the evening departure is convenient for people traveling after work.”
According to Kibens, Lux Express’s decision to launch a new route for the summer season is a natural response to increasing demand.
“This is a common practice, especially in Estonia, where some bus routes operate only during summer, much like seasonal flights. Also, it’s clear that many Lithuanians are interested in visiting the Latvian coast during the summer season,” he adds. “It’s worth noting that seat availability is limited, so we recommend planning your trip in advance.”
From Klaipėda to Liepāja – Starting at €9
The trip from Klaipėda to Liepāja is expected to take about 1 hour and 40 minutes, and the full journey to Riga will take approximately 5 hours and 10 minutes. For Lithuanians vacationing on the Baltic coast, a weekend trip to Liepāja or Riga will become an easy and convenient way to enrich their seaside holiday.
Ticket prices are also budget-friendly: travel from Klaipėda to Liepāja will cost €9–12, and to Riga €18–25. Lux Express applies dynamic pricing, meaning fares may be slightly higher during peak times (Friday evenings or Sunday nights) and lower during mid-week.
Lux Express also offers discounts for various passenger groups:
-
60% off for children under 7,
-
40% off for children under 16,
-
26% off for youth under 26,
-
10% off for seniors aged 60 and older.
Strengthening Cross-Border Ties
This new route represents a step toward realizing the vision of regional cooperation between coastal cities in Lithuania and Latvia. When the Riga–Liepāja route was launched last year, the mayor of Liepāja symbolically drew a line on the map from Liepāja to Klaipėda, emphasizing the importance of strong transport connections with the Lithuanian coast for both economic and tourism development.
“This new route connects not just cities but people,” says Klaipėda’s mayor Arvydas Vaitkus. “We are delighted to invite not only Lithuanians to discover Liepāja but also our Latvian neighbors to visit Klaipėda — a port city where you can enjoy the Baltic Sea during the day and cultural events, a cozy old town, or modern spaces in the evening.
Klaipėda is a welcoming city that offers a journey through history, nature, and vibrant urban life. In summer, the city comes alive with international festivals, open-air concerts, arts fairs, the Sea Festival, and a rich cultural and entertainment program that appeals to families, youth, and older travelers alike.
This is the time when Klaipėda becomes an open stage where every visitor can find something to enjoy — from classical concerts to street music, from museums to seaside sunsets. We believe this new route will become another strong thread of friendship between our cities and nations.”
Bike-Friendly Travel: Take Your Bicycle with You
Travelers will enjoy plenty of comforts: buses will offer free Wi-Fi, power outlets, individual media screens, and complimentary coffee and water. In addition, passengers will be able to transport bicycles for free, provided they reserve a spot in advance.
