Wednesday, July 29, at 5:30 p.m. The Castle Museum invites you to join us in celebrating the 421st birthday of the distinguished Klaipėda bard and poet Simonas Dachas (1605–1659). The event will take place in the newly restored Castle Tower (Priešpilio St. 2, Klaipėda).

Simonas Dachas—one of the most prominent cultural figures of 17th-century Prussian Lithuania—continues to remind us today, through his work, of the region’s multicultural history. To mark this occasion, a cozy gathering is being organized, featuring Baroque music and a celebration of the poet’s life and literary legacy.

A highlight of the evening There will be a screening of the documentary film “Mėmelis Was the Name of My Hometown” (running time: 20 min.). Its creators—Edita Anglickaitė and Gintautas Beržinskas—will invite viewers to explore historic Memel, its people, their memories, and the city’s cultural heritage.

Following the official part of the program, guests will be treated to refreshments and informal conversations.
