Contemporary Music Festival “Music of Change”
The intriguing concert “Asian Music” invites you to experience the works of contemporary Asian composers and the sound of traditional instruments in an unexpected context. The evening is centred on a concerto by the world-renowned Chinese composer Tan Dun, written for guzheng (the Chinese zither, similar to the Lithuanian kankle) and string orchestra – a work that blends the worlds of ancient Eastern traditions and modern music.
Tan Dun’s concerto will be performed by Wu Fei, an exceptional guzheng performer, renowned for her artistry and improvisational skills, and she will be joined by Swedish conductor Leif Karlsson, a well-known contemporary music enthusiast and member of the percussion ensemble Kroumata, as well as the artistic director of the only Lithuanian Symphony Wind Orchestra.
What is unexpected is that these two artists will also perform improvisations on stage. The concert will also feature Japanese composer Tōru Takemitsu’s delicate Requiem, a chamber opus full of introspective silence and transparent sadness.
