5 June 19.00 we invite you to meet in the cozy courtyard of Klaipėda Ethnoculture Centre (Daržų g.10), where Rokas Kašėta and his band will be “making music”.
Many first heard Rokas Kašėta’s name in 2020, when his debut music video for the song “Tokį morytų” (This Morning) unexpectedly blew up on the internet, with its rhythmic accompaniment of the Dzūkija words by a birch vanta. It was the beginning of Dzūkodelika. Rock art is full of experimentation, exploration and surprises, but even the most disparate works are united by the Dzūkai dialect. After travelling and living abroad, the creator himself was encouraged to feel his “natural” way of speaking anew by the realisation of the importance of not abandoning one’s roots, of knowing what land one stands on, where one came from and who one is, in short – the idea of indigenousness.
The rock songs are both his individual creations and the texts of Dzūkai poets turned into music. Although small in number, it also has a prominent place in the list of Dzūkai folk songs and their motifs. The musician has already released two albums: his debut Dzūkodelika (2022) and Clay Songs dedicated to the poet Sigitas Geda (2025), which he recorded with a large group of friends – the Bemolis Kapela.
Rokas Kašėta is more and more often taking to the stage with a group of professional musicians, with whom, as he himself says, he “boils up good moturzės”. During the cosy concerts, when the audience feels as if they have come to visit this company at the Dzūkija farmstead, there is always something unexpected waiting for them – a new song, a story, a “drumming mash-up”, a distribution of seeds, or a performance. Meanwhile, the old songs, well-known to many, shine on the stage in unprecedented colours, surprise with unexpected twists and turns, and the best part of all is that Rokas and his band like to surprise themselves with a unique improvisation, meant to sound only here and now.
