Soon the foyer of the Klaipėda State Music Theatre will be filled with the colours of music and the beauty of voices – we invite you to a sensual choral music concert “Songs on the Sandy Stairs”. This is not just a concert – it is a moment when time stops for a moment and singing becomes a bridge between ages, cultures and hearts.
The audience will be treated to a subtle and colourful programme of works by G.F. Handel, G. Verdi, C. Orff, M.K. Čiurlionis, J. Naujalis, V. Augustin, V. Konstantinov and others. Each of them is like a stepping stone leading through the sands of time to a deeper understanding of oneself and music.
The Klaipėda State Musical Theatre Choir (chief choirmaster V. Konstantinov), whose stage maturity and inner sensitivity allow them to reveal the most diverse layers of choral music – from powerful dramatic climaxes to the most fragile emotional half-tones.
The conductor will be Kęstutis Jakeliūnas (Kaunas), who hails from Klaipėda and took his first steps on the musical path here. After graduating from the Eduard Balsis Arts Gymnasium in Klaipėda and studying at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, this conductor is deservedly regarded as one of the most prominent representatives of Lithuanian choral culture. He is the artistic director of the Kaunas mixed choir Kamertonas, the founder of the vocal ensemble Acusto, the chief conductor of the Lithuanian Song Festivals, who uses both his deep musical knowledge and his innate intuition in his creative work. Thanks to his baton, music doesn’t just sound – it speaks!
“Songs on the Sandy Stairs is a concert that brings together time-tested works, an experienced master and an ambitious choir, and most importantly, an audience ready to embark on a sensitive and inspiring musical journey.
