22 July 2025 9 pm. Klaipėda Sculpture Park will host a special concert – “Dedication of Sounds to the Memory of Dionysius Varkalis” – in honour of the eminent personality, the custodian of Klaipėda’s heritage, sailor, folk artist, and public figure Dionyzas Varkalis (1934-2022). The event is unique in its form – there will be no stage, chairs or the usual relationship between spectator and performer. The sound will travel spatially, in all directions, creating a park-like atmosphere. Listeners are invited to move freely among the sounds rather than sit, to walk along the park paths, stop at the benches or simply be surrounded by the sounds. It is an invitation to remember the people of the region who rested here, to concentrate on the memory of which Dionyzas Varkalis himself was the guardian while he was alive – a man who preserved many details of the old cemetery, and many signs of heritage important to the city and Lithuania through his work.
