At the V. Garasto Tournament in Klaipėda – no foreign opponents yet

The 12th edition of the friendly international men’s basketball tournament for the Vladas Garastas Cup will be held at the Švyturys Arena in Klaipėda. The tournament, named after Lithuanian basketball legend V. Garastas, will take place on September 12–13 of this year.

Four teams will compete in this traditional friendly basketball tournament: Klaipėda’s Neptūnas, Šiauliai’s Šiauliai, Riga’s Zelli, and Baku’s Sabah. This will be the first time that foreign teams participate in this tournament. Next season, all teams will play not only in their domestic leagues but also in international championships: the Baltic clubs will compete in the EuroCup, while the Transcaucasian team will play in the FIBA Champions League.

The teams’ results in their respective national championships last season:

• “Neptūnas,” 3rd place in the Lithuanian Basketball League
• “Šiauliai,” 6th place in the Lithuanian Basketball League
• “Zelli,” 3rd place in the Latvian Basketball League
• “Sabah,” 1st place (for the fourth consecutive year) in the Azerbaijan Basketball League

The tournament for the V. Garastas Cup, to be held at Švyturys Arena, is the best opportunity to see for yourself how the clubs are stacked and what to expect from the teams in the new basketball season. Fans and regular followers of this event can once again look forward to many intense and exciting moments.

The friendly basketball tournament will last two days. The winners of the first day’s games will compete the next day for the main trophy—the V. Garasto Cup—while the losers will compete for third place. All spectators (except VIPs) will enter Švyturio Arena through the Club’s Entrance No. 3, on the side facing Dubysos Street . Here, visitors will find a spacious, free parking lot, a cozy atmosphere, and spots with the best views.

The basketball tournament is dedicated to the Lithuanian basketball coach who passed away this year, Vladas Garastas, an Olympic medalist, and Saulius Vilkas, a longtime player, coach, and manager for Klaipėda’s “Neptūnas.”
