The project “The Light of Freedom from Klaipėda” is intended to commemorate the 35th anniversary of January 13th, to commemorate the memory of the fallen defenders of freedom and to express the idea of freedom in Lithuania through an artistic installation and music.
The illuminated traditional Lithuanian “garden” presented during the event will become a symbol of the connection between the past and the hopeful future. After the presentation, the installation will be transferred to the DFDS ferry departing from Klaipėda and will travel for several months on the Baltic Sea, carrying the message of the light of freedom of Lithuania to the other shores of Europe.
At the heart of the project is a luminous “garden” created by folk artist Julia Jauniuvienė, which combines the Lithuanian traditions and contemporary light art expression. Woven from materials grown on Lithuanian soil and supplemented with light elements, it symbolises the sustainability, vitality and hope of the national spirit. It is a tree of light, growing from the roots of memory.
