On July 25, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., the “Lyceum” Professional Art Gallery in Klaipėda invites you to an exclusive meeting with Simas Žaltauskas, one of Klaipėda’s most prominent contemporary painters. During the event, visitors will have a rare opportunity not only to familiarize themselves with the artist’s work but also to watch him paint live and chat with him.

The paintings will come to life before the viewers’ eyes

A live creative process is one of the most exciting ways to experience art up close. Usually, visitors to a gallery encounter a finished work, but this time they’ll be able to observe the creative process itself—how a composition, color relationships, and expressive brushstrokes come to life on the canvas.

On July 25, artist S. Žaltauskas will paint en plein air (lit. “in the open air”)—from life, responding to natural light, the colors of the surroundings, and the ever-changing atmosphere. This painting method requires exceptional sensitivity to the environment, spontaneity, and a quick artistic response, so viewers will have the opportunity to witness the full dynamics of the creative process up close.

Meeting with the Creator

The opportunity to observe the creative process of this Klaipėda-based artist live will allow viewers to see painting from a completely different perspective—not as a finished product, but as a living, constantly evolving creative act. About the Author

Simas Žaltauskas was born in 1980 in Klaipėda. After completing his studies in painting at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, he has been actively involved in the Lithuanian art scene. Since 2008, he has been a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union; he teaches drawing and painting at the Klaipėda Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts and works as a set designer at the Klaipėda State Music Theater.

Throughout his creative career, the artist has held 25 solo exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad—in Stockholm, London, Cardiff—and has participated in more than 30 group exhibitions; his work has been recognized with various grants, prizes, and awards. In 2012, he was awarded the Antanas Gudaitis Honorary Diploma for continuing and developing the Lithuanian tradition of colorist painting. In addition to painting, Simas Žaltauskas also writes poetry—he has published several books of poetry.

The artist’s work is distinguished by its expressive brushwork, rich color palette, and sensitive engagement with motifs from nature. His paintings continue the tradition of the Lithuanian Colorist School, while also exploring new possibilities for visual expression, in which emotion and intuition become no less important than the depicted object.
