On June 19 at 3:00 p.m., the Lithuanian Maritime Museum invites you to the opening of the exhibition “21 Days in the Baltic Sea” and a meeting with swimmer Meinardas Valkevičius, who in the summer of 2025 swam 366 kilometers across the Baltic Sea from Sweden to Lithuania.
The 21-day journey was not only a test of physical endurance, but also an experience that is difficult to convey through numbers, photos, or videos alone.
This exhibition features the equipment used during the swim and 21 photographs by Marius Domkus, capturing each day in the Baltic Sea. These are documentary fragments of the journey, offering a glimpse into everyday life between the sky and the water.
The highlight of the exhibition is the 210-second animated film “21 Days in the Baltic Sea.” It is an artistic interpretation of Meinardas Valkevičius’s journey across the sea, born from personal experience that cannot be fully captured on camera. Storms, fog, cold, encounters with sea creatures, a submarine unexpectedly appearing on the horizon, moments of solitude, the crew’s dedication, and a constant struggle with oneself have all become part of this story. That is why part of this story is told through the language of animation.
The film is structured as a cycle—it can be watched from the beginning, the middle, or the end. Like the sea itself, it has no single correct starting point. It is a story not only about 366 kilometers in the Baltic Sea, but also about the people who embarked on this journey together, about the courage to step into the unknown, and the realization that the impossible remains so only until it becomes possible.
The exhibition invites you to discover this extraordinary journey and briefly immerse yourself in a world where people, the sea, and dreams come face to face. A world where “impossible” is just a word.
