On September 11, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., the Art Department of the I. Kant Public Library of the Klaipėda City Municipality (9 J. Janonio St.) will host the opening of the exhibition “INNER PILLARS,” featuring ceramics by REGINA MALAKAUSKIENĖ and paintings by MARTA MALAKAUSKAITĖ.
The exhibition will be on display from September 8 to September 30, 2026.
About the artists:
REGINA MALAKAUSKIENĖ (b. 1966 in Klaipėda) is a professional ceramic artist whose life and work have been inextricably linked to the cultural fabric of the port city for several decades. In 1985, she graduated from Klaipėda Secondary School No. 12 and the Adomas Brakas Children’s Art School, where she laid the foundations for her visual art. Later, the artist studied at the Vilnius Academy of Arts (1985–1990), where she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree and qualified as a ceramist. After completing her professional education, R. Malakauskienė returned to her hometown of Klaipėda, where she lives, creates, and continues to teach the younger generation the magic of creativity.
This exhibition is the artist’s sixth solo show, but this time it unfolds as an exceptionally intimate and profound space. Art functions in R. Malakauskienė’s life not only as an aesthetic expression but also as a constant journey inward and a search for her identity. For her, the creative process becomes a form of psychotherapy: through soft, malleable clay—later hardened by fire—the artist reveals her most complex inner states. It is a way to release and materialize her inner demons, fears, and tensions, giving them physical form and thereby freeing herself from them.
The works presented in the exhibition are direct witnesses to these spiritual transformations. The clay, brought to life in the exhibition, speaks through the most diverse forms: some states have become monumental, heavy inner pillars; others—subtle allegories or witty caricatures; and still others have blossomed into light, cheerful figurines. The artist is not afraid to experiment with the drama of form, so each object in the exhibition invites the visitor into a sensitive and open dialogue about the depths of the human soul.

MARTA MALAKAUSKAITĖ (born in 1998 in Klaipėda) is an artist whose life is a remarkable blend of two fields that, at first glance, seem very different: medicine and art. After graduating from the Herman Zuderman Gymnasium in Klaipėda in 2017, she chose to pursue a career in medicine. In 2024, she completed her master’s degree in medicine in Kaunas, and today she is continuing her studies as a resident in Vilnius.Creativity has been a part of Marta’s life since childhood—it was such a natural process that she couldn’t even pinpoint a specific starting point. Her greatest inspiration was her mother, a ceramic artist whose talent was never limited to a single field. Growing up in a creative environment, Marta was encouraged to experiment and boldly express her feelings. This helped her realize that true art has no boundaries and doesn’t have to conform to the opinions of others. Although she later studied the basics of drawing and composition, her choice to pursue demanding medical studies took up all her time for a long while. Five years ago, encouraged by her mother, Marta picked up a paintbrush again and tried her hand at painting for the first time. From an artistic perspective, Marta’s works intrigue with their depth. They reveal a fascination with fantasy and dystopian themes, which subconsciously resonate with her daily medical experiences and a sense of human fragility. Since the paintings were created for herself rather than for exhibition halls, they are free from any desire to please the public. This has given her work complete freedom and sincerity. This exhibition marks the moment when her personal escape from the stresses of hospital work became a public and open narrative.
