After a memorable premiere, we invite you to re-experience the opera The Voyage by Philip Glass, one of the most famous composers of the 20th century – a huge, visually compelling work about humanity’s desire to explore and discover.
Prologue: a scientist inspired by Stephen Hawking explores the cosmos from a wheelchair – a journey that takes place with his mind, not his body.
Act I: Aliens flee a black hole and land on a primordial Earth, where they encounter animalistic indigenous people.
Act II: Columbus prepares for his journey to the West, with a farewell ceremony at the Spanish Palace. Later, the nightmares and visions of his last expedition.
Act III: The society of the future embarks on another mission – to new lands, to new meanings of being.
Epilogue: a dying Columbus reflects on the cost of his actions – colonisation, destroyed civilisations.
