The French string quintet Bilitis, together with accordion virtuoso Théo Ould, present a programme in which the energy of South American tango meets the European classical tradition. At the epicentre of the concert is the music of Ástor Piazzolla, transforming the traditional tango into a modern, dramatic and orchestrally rich world.
His most famous opuses will include Libertango, Oblivion, excerpts from The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, Suite del Ángel, and other works that reflect the aesthetics of Buenos Aires’ nighttime, light and movement. The programme also includes Baroque master Antonio Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Violins and a romantic arrangement of the slow movement of Antonín Dvořák’s Ninth Symphony. These works, re-coloured with contemporary arrangements, bring contrasts and open up an unexpected dialogue between epochs.
