July 16, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. The Immanuel Kant Public Library of the Klaipėda City Municipality invites you to a virtual reality experience “VR’Kantu: Klaipėda’s History from a Different Angle” which will take place At the interactive summer reading room on Karlskrona Square, near the Danė River embankment. For the first time, v An innovative creative cultural project will be presented to the public, inviting people not only to learn about the city’s history but also to become a part of it.
Virtual reality technology allows us to view the city’s past from a different perspective—the historical narrative is complemented by Immanuel Kant’s philosophical ideas on human responsibility, independent thought, and the importance of peace.
During the premiere, visitors will meet the project’s creators and have the exclusive opportunity to be the first to experience a 20-minute virtual reality journey through the history of Klaipėda.
A project in the works for 1.5 years—a gift to Klaipėda
“VR’Kantu: The History of Klaipėda from a Different Perspective” is the result of a digitization project carried out by the Immanuel Kant Public Library of the Klaipėda City Municipality, which lasted nearly 1.5 years.
Developed in collaboration with historians, tour guides, cultural heritage specialists, and education experts, this innovative audiovisual virtual reality experience offers a fresh perspective on the history, architecture, and cultural heritage of the city of Klaipėda.
The project aims not only to preserve historical memory but also to bring it up to date using modern technologies, so that the city’s history is engaging, understandable, and easily accessible to a wide range of audiences.
A story you can experience
This virtual reality experience takes you on a 20-minute journey through the history of Klaipėda—from the early origins of the castle site to the city’s modern skyline. Through 10 historical sites, the experience reveals the city’s architecture, daily life, cultural memory, and philosophical reflections inspired by Immanuel Kant’s ideas on reason, morality, and the importance of peace.
This is not a traditional narrative, but an experiential journey in which history comes to life through images, sounds, and emotions. The viewer becomes an active participant in the story and experiences the city’s transformations—from a commercial boom to war and rebirth.

This engaging and educational VR experience is designed for a wide audience—students, teachers, researchers, city residents, and visitors. It is available in Lithuanian, English, and German, and the content is adapted for people with visual or hearing impairments to ensure the widest possible access to cultural heritage.

The creation of the VR film was funded by the European Union’s (NextGenerationEU) economic recovery and resilience plan “New Generation Lithuania” and the state budget of the Republic of Lithuania.
