Concert hall – for Klaipėda. Summer city terraces
Venue: cultural space HOFAS (Danės g. 8, Klaipėda)
Did you know that the tango – a passionate, heart-warming dance and music genre – was born not in opulent halls, but in the suburbs of Buenos Aires and Montevideo at the end of the 19th century? Around 1880-1890, in the port districts, where Spanish, Italian, African, Creole and indigenous cultures met, a new artistic expression – the tango – was born out of poverty, longing and a desire to communicate. In the beginning, the tango was danced in cafés, snack bars and brothels, accompanied by the violin, guitar or flute…
Having come a long way from the disdain of the high society to the conquest of Paris, the tango will be heard in Klaipėda, where “TANGO REVOLUTION” will be unveiled.
In today’s concert, we invite you on a journey from that old, danceable tango, the milonga, to the modern concert tango created by Ástor Piazzolla. It was he – the king of the new tango – who fused classical music, jazz and tango into a seamless, expressive form, where you don’t dance, you listen.
We will hear his famous work “The Seasons in Buenos Aires” performed by violinist and arranger Vilhelmas Čepinskis with string orchestra. Later, you will see tango dancers on stage, who will bring to life the essence of the dance – body language, proximity, improvisation.
The culmination of the evening, a surprise for all the participants – a milonga – at the end of the programme, you will be treated to a real dance feast where the past, the present and the discovery of the Argentine pulsating rhythm will merge together!
