The alternative music project KAME (Klaipėda Alternative Music Spaces) continues its series of unique cultural experiences. Music lovers in the port city are invited to an exceptional evening—at the Klaipėda Automobile Museum (Liepų St. 47), a venue steeped in industrial heritage, where the international neo-folk rock duo “South for Winter” (U.S. / New Zealand) will perform.
From the rooftops of Peru to the recording studios of Nashville
The story of “South for Winter” began in the summer of 2014, when New Zealander Nick Stone and American Dani Cichon met while volunteering in South America. On the roof of a house in Peru, they wrote their first song, “Fallen Seeds,” which became their debut single. After several years of pursuing their musical journeys on different continents, the duo reunited in New Zealand and later moved to the music mecca of Nashville (U.S.). There, they perfected their signature sound—an eclectic blend of instruments and memorable stories.
Since 2018, the duo has been touring constantly and has already performed hundreds of concerts in the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, and most of Europe. Their sound, often described as “neo-folk blues,” folk roots, or “Ameri-kinda,” stands out for its emotional depth, carefully crafted lyrics, and natural charisma.
Prestigious awards and a Grammy winner’s touch
The duo is coming to Lithuania with a host of international accolades to their credit. “South for Winter” has won the IAP Grand Prize for Album of the Year and has been a finalist and semifinalist in the International Songwriters Contest (ISC) and the American Songwriters Contest. Their talent has also been officially recognized by such prestigious festivals as “South by Southwest” (SXSW) and “Folk Alliance International.”
The band’s debut album, *Luxumbra*, and their latest critically acclaimed conceptual work, *Of Sea and Sky*, were produced in Nashville by multiple Grammy Award winner Matt Leigh. The fact that listeners greatly appreciate this music is also evidenced by a successful crowdfunding campaign—fans donated over $21,000 (141% of the target). Today, the duo has over 50,000 followers online, and their songs are played on major radio stations around the world, from New York to New Zealand.
