The sculpture Kite was originally titled Icarus – a reference to the Greek myth of Daedalus and his son Icarus.

Daedalus fashioned wings of feathers and wax, placing them on himself and his son, warning Icarus not to fly too close to the sun. But Icarus disobeyed. Enchanted by the thrill of flight, he soared too high – the wax melted, the feathers scattered, and he fell into the foaming sea.

The sculpture Kite portrays a bold human being flying towards their goal.
