The folk song ‘Two Fishermen’ (Rėza 112, 113) is heard:
And then grew angry
The God of waves —
The north wind rose.
Ah, comrade, comrade,
My companion,
Cast the little anchor of gold!
Let the god of storm and wind toss the boat
Upon the golden anchor!
We see an old man, fierce-eyed, with a large nose and a mouth obscured by a moustache.
The sculpture depicts Bangpūtis, the god of wind and storms.
This water deity was known to the Western Lithuanians and the ancient Prussians.
