INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS 1982, Ksenija Jaroševaitė

File size:  2.47 MB

The sculpture Intrusive Thoughts depicts a person absorbed in deep concentration, alone with their own mind.

The title highlights a state of inner struggle: the figure is tormented by intrusive thoughts, represented as small creatures crawling along the spine.

This work has a powerful sensory impact. Its universality is heightened by the figure’s nudity, which emphasises human nature in its raw, elemental form. At the same time, the figure is also divine – capable of thought, of reaching toward God.

The sculpture portrays the drama of the thinking human being, torn between two natures: the earthly and the divine.
