Klaipėda is a city where art, having taken to the streets, lives an independent life. Unexpected stories come into life on the surfaces of walls, alleys and yards, sometimes historical, sometimes witty, and sometimes simply evocative and beautiful. Here, street art is not a decoration but a part of the city’s identity. It gives Klaipėda unexpected angles, liveliness and originality.
Dozens of impressive wall paintings inspired by the city’s history, myths and everyday life can be found in the port city. A painted map of the Old Town can be found on Turgaus Street, and nearby there are frescoes restored in the spirit of the old Friedrich’s Arcade. The painting ‘Legends’ is reminiscent of the Witches’ Hill, and the legends ‘Jūratė and Kastytis’ and ‘Eglė the Queen of Serpents’.
The street art in Klaipėda is shifting unceasingly. It is alive, free, and continuously enriches with new colours, every corner can turn into a gallery, and every wall can become a canvas of an artist.
