M.K. Čiurlionis’s prelude begins to play.
Evening. Nothing is needed,
Only to sit and watch,
How the sun leaves us,
And glow like the evening glows.
(A brief pause, the music continues)
To sit and watch like this,
With no thought at all,
And to want nothing,
Nothing, nothing – not even death.
(The music continues softly to the end of the text.)
Sculptor Arūnas Sakalauskas created Lonely Mountain, inspired by the poem Evening by the Lithuanian poet Henrikas Radauskas and by the pieces of the composer and painter Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis.
The sculpture depicts a tall mountain on the peak of which dwell two kings – two gods. Their heads bowed together, they gaze into the city glowing in their palms.
