Giruliai seems to be a place specially created for a family vacation. This small settlement situated in the northern part of Klaipėda welcomes you with the sound of the sea and the company of green forests. Nature here is especially beautiful and generous; the area is home to a botanical-zoological reserve.
Back in the 19th century, sand dunes stretched in this place, which the Prussian government decided to plant with pine trees. Later, merchants were allowed to operate bathing establishments, and locals were allowed to rent summer houses. Today, it is one of the most popular beaches of Klaipėda, especially among families with children.
Giruliai can be reached on bike, by bus or even by train, in just 7 minutes from the city centre. An asphalt path leads through the dunes to the beach, and the beach itself is spacious and friendly to everyone with its cafes, a lifeguard station, changing cabins and a wooden observation deck, which is a marvellous place to watch the sunset spectacle in the evenings.
Those who strive for more may reach such worth-visiting places nearby as the impressive Dutchman’s Hat cliff, the remains of the Memel-Nord battery or the unique Karklė Village cemetery situated on the seashore.
Anyone who has ever vacationed in the summer in Giruliai knows that it is more than just a beach: it is a place where every day begins with the songs of the sea, and ends with toys lost in the sand and the most precious memories in your collection of experiences.
