Klaipėda “bauhauz”

The buildings of Klaipėda’s Old Town have the spirit of German architecture, and there are also many magnificent buildings in the historicist style. The Bauhaus is a very unique heritage of functional architecture with Klaipėda features. Kaunas and Klaipėda – in the interwar period were strongly influenced by Western architecture. Kaunas was swept by the winds of modernist architecture, Klaipėda by the winds of Bauhaus architecture. The architecture of the town’s unique Bauhaus legacy, which passed from hand to hand between the two world wars, was shaped by both German building regulations and the work of individual architects. Most of the Bauhaus buildings are located in the centre of Klaipėda.

The word “Bauhaus”, translated from German, means building houses.”Bauhaus” means “building a house”, which means “building a house”, which means “building a house”. The Bauhaus style dates back to 1919, when the architect Walter Gropius founded the Bauhaus School. The main idea of the Bauhaus is to break away from historicism, decorativeness, impracticality and to create art that is universal, purposeful and laconic.
