A series of events dedicated to World Earth Day will take place in Klaipėda. City residents and visitors will be invited to participate in various educational activities, creative workshops, lectures, and meetings with nature experts. This year’s program of events will not only remind us of the fragility of our planet, but also encourage the community to contribute more actively to environmental protection.
PROGRAM
March 19, 1 p.m. In the courtyard of the Klaipėda Eduardo Balsys Art Gymnasium (Statybininkų pr. 2)
“CHILDREN’S VOICES – EARTH DAY”
• Education with ornithologist Boris Belchev “Birdhouses: why and how to maintain a birdhouse”
• Birdhouse workshop
• Setting up duck nesting sites
• Concert program by the Eduardo Balsys Art Gymnasium mixed choir
March 20, 1 p.m. Klaipėda University Botanical Garden (Kretingos g. 92)
“EARTH DAY: A LETTER TO THE FUTURE AND A HOME FOR BIRDS”
The KU Botanical Garden invites 5th–8th grade students to an interesting and meaningful meeting. This is a special day when day and night are equal across the Earth – a great opportunity to think about our planet and its future.
During the event, we will embark on an imaginary journey to the year 2050 and write a letter to the year 2026. What kind of Earth have we managed to create? Have we learned to live in harmony with nature? Or is there still something we need to change today?
We will also learn what happens in nature when spring awakens. KU students will talk about returning birds, their importance to nature, and reveal how bird ringing is done and why it is important to scientists.
Since it is traditional to put up birdhouses on Earth Day, we invite you to join in and bring your own birdhouse for future winged residents.
