Just as Andean women weave kipu (textile works made of ropes and knots) as signs of memory, Argentinian artist Tiziano Cruz goes back to his childhood in order to reconnect with his community.
Drawing on archival material, the work reflects on how racial hierarchies and structures of domination operate in a world where neoliberalism violently destroys cultural, vital and collective traces.
“Wayqeycuna is the last part of the trilogy Tres Maneras de Cantarle a una Montaña, in which the artist combines his childhood memories from the interior of northern Argentina with political manifestos about the art market and class privilege through a series of poetic gestures.
